3. Candle Safety

Candles are a fire hazard if not used properly. By purchasing and using candles from The MEL Collection, you agree to follow these candle safety guidelines at all times:

  • Never Unattended: Never leave a burning candle unattended. Extinguish candles before leaving the room, going to sleep, or when impaired by alcohol, medication, or fatigue.
  • Keep Away From Children & Pets: Keep candles out of reach of children and pets at all times.
  • Safe Placement: Place candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface and keep away from flammable materials (curtains, bedding, paper, décor, etc.). Do not place candles on or near anything that can catch fire.
  • Avoid Drafts & Heat Sources: Do not burn candles in drafty areas or near fans, vents, or open windows. Keep away from other heat sources.
  • Wick Trimming: Trim the wick to 1/4 inch before each burn. Discontinue use and extinguish the candle if the flame becomes too high, smokes excessively, flickers heavily, or the wick develops a “mushroom” tip.
  • Burn Time & Container Heat: Do not burn candles for more than 4 hours at a time. Allow the candle to cool before relighting. Extinguish the flame if the container becomes excessively hot or damaged.
  • Use and Extinguish Safely: Do not move a candle while it is burning or while wax is hot. Use a snuffer or gently blow out the flame. Ensure the wick is centered after extinguishing.
  • Stop Use When Necessary: Discontinue burning when there is approximately 1/2 inch of wax remaining (or sooner if you notice any safety concern).
